6:30 PM "Let's Burn Those Socks"

Legend has it that boaters would celebrate the start of Spring by burning the worn-out socks they had been wearing all winter. Sailors and boaters up and down the coast continue this tradition, and PHYC will celebrate this event with an annual get together where members, new and old, can get acquainted or re-acquainted as the case may be...and, of course, burn those old socks!

Cooking Competition - April

Roberta Netherly's Power Boater Team against Jay Bailey's Sail Boater Team! Join us Saturday, April 28th for the Annual Cook-off! The two teams will be preparing their “secret recipe” entree dishes for all to share. The rest of us will bring our favorite side dish or dessert to compliment the team's creations. Let's get together at the Poolside Clubhouse around 5:00 PM for docktails and plan on eating about 6:00 or 6:30. Bring your own favorite beverages and remember, “NO GLASS!!

Please let us know if you plan on attending no later than Thursday, April 26th so the cooking teams will know how much to prepare!

Cardboard Boat Race - August

Date: August 4 (Rain Date 11), 2012 - PHYC Members, Event Coordinators

This is a TEAM event! Boat building materials will only consist of cardboard, duck-tape and paint. Rules will be provided before the event. This year boats will be allowed to be built outside Portofino and brought in for the race. Hot Dogs & hamburgers will be sold throughout the day so come out and participate in this outstanding event.

This is a sailboat race from Galveston to Port Aransas. Racers will leave from the Flagship Hotel Pier in Galveston on Thursday, October 25 and must arrive in Port Aransas by 1:00 PM Saturday, October 27. Land Yacht'ers - cruise down and welcome our PHYC'ers in! Welcome Sailor Rum Party and Awards Party starts Saturday, October 27 at 4:30 PM.

Ballunar Liftoff Dinghy Cruise - October

Get your dinghies ready and meet in the inner harbor of Portofino. This will be a "lunch at a restaurant on the lake" dinghy cruise. If we're lucky, we may see a balloon or two!

Halloween / Pumpkin Carving Party - October

Bring a Halloween dish to share, a pumpkin to carve and a candle for illuminating the finished product. Pumpkin carving will start at 5 pm. Once all the pumpkins are carved, we'll light them up and judge which one is the best!
